Make Your Day-Make My Day©- A world-wide effort to increase happiness through giving and receiving

Doesn’t an unexpected gift or unsolicited assistance really make your day?  At the same time, doesn’t doing something for someone else feel great too! According to Researcher Elizabeth Dunn, those who give to others report greater happiness than those who give to themselves.

Make Your Day- Make My Day© (MYD-MMD) is a world-wide initiative encouraging people to do something unexpectedly nice for someone else; something that takes a little thought to make it special.  You’ve just made someone’s day!

The 2nd part of MYD-MMD also means: after you give to someone else, then it’s time to give back to you. Do something really nice for yourself. According to research, creative pursuits make people happier.  Research shows that deep engagement and concentration creates a feeling of satisfaction, even euphoria. This is called being in a state of “flow”—when you’re so absorbed in what you’re doing that you lose awareness of time passing. Remember, it is possible to take care of your own needs while simultaneously caring for those around you.  And once your needs are met, you will likely be far more capable of helping those who need you most.

Make Your Day- Make My Day© concept creates a circular motion; you give to someone else, then you give to you which in turn, makes you an even better giver for the next time. You may decide to babysit a neighbor’s children for a few hours and then in turn reward yourself with reading a good book. Looking for something bigger scale, perhaps send a loved- one to that weekend get-a-way they need and then later go do something you love to do. The possibilities are endless!  Watch yourself and others light up as you walk through the giving and receiving process.

Make Your Day- Make My Day is a week- long initiative so you can do it once or several times!   Let’s all make ourselves and the world a happier place. Make Your Day- Make My Day©- week of March 14 through March 20th, which is International Day of Happiness.
